About English Department!

The Department of English is the pristine departments in the set up our College. Flourishing under the inspiring leadership of the Hon’ble Secretary and the erudite nourishment of the Principal, Director and the faculty it was successfully created in the academic year 2011-2012. The Department owns responsibility of catering of Communication and Soft skills for the students and adding wings to fly high in the name of P.G. Course, purpose is to ensuring growth, grooming and nurturing of critical perspectives in the minds of the learners.

The teaching staff is committed to set standards of excellence in the college and is striving hard in consonance with the vision of our institution. The Department operates in such a way as to create an intimate and relaxed atmosphere in which ideas can be freely exchanged.

The Department offers a lively and diverse range of lectures, seminars and group discussions to enhance the skills of the learners. Literature based movies are also shown to the students on a regular basis to make their understanding of the text more comprehensive. Extension lectures are regularly organized. The department also invites visiting fellows.

The faculty strives hard to increase the competence of the students in English, most of whom have a rural background. Considering the low standard of the students at the entry level, their performance in the University examinations is good.

Our Association

A)  DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

  • The English department did a mega literary journey which conducted an Inter & Intra Collegiate Competitions on 1st and 2nd of September 2016 and competed Inter-Collegiate competitions like Rangoli, Face Painting, Art from Waste, Flameless Cooking and Fashion Show in which our students involved enthusiastically and more than 200 students eagerly participated in the competitions from other departments.
  • The Intra-Collegiate competitions were conducted on 2nd September, 2016. The competitions are such as Paper Presentation, Just a Minute, Model Display, Singing, Connexion, Literary Parade and Dance in which our department students eagerly participated and won prizes. In these competitions the department of Information Technology secured the overall championship. The Literary Jamboree 2016 brought up the stamina of inter and intra department students.
  • The department of English organized UGC sponsored Two-Day National Seminar titled Indo-Anglian and Anglo-Indian Literature: A Comparison on 12th& 13th of April, 2017. The inaugural session was started with prayer in the first day. Mrs. G. Kameshwari, Head of the English Department, welcomed the gathering. The Principal in-charge Mrs. G. Adhilakshmi presided over the function. The Director of Self-Financing Courses, G. Venkatasalapathi gave felicitation for the department that planned the programme and participants. The Chief Guest, Dr. S. Samuel Rufus, Associate Professor in English, Madras Christian College delivered keynote address as well as the Chief Guest address the seminar topic which was rhapsodic experience in the morning session. The second session of the day was handled by Dr. Reshmi, Assistant Professor in English, Pondicherry University gave her speech on “Themes and Techniques of Indo-Anglian and Anglo-Indian Literature” with comparison. Numerous faculty members, students from various colleges participated and presented papers on this day.
  • On 13th April, the second day of the National Seminar, the Resource Person Dr. John Sekar, Associate Professor of English, American College of Madurai, threw light on Recent Trends in Indian Literature eulogistically. In the afternoon Valedictory Session was begun with the welcome address by Mr. G. Prince Rathina Singh, Assistant Professor of English. Dr.BennysonThilagarChritadoss, Associate Professor,St.John’s College of Thirunelveli, clearly explained the Language Style of Indian Literature in his valedictory address. Then the best presenter awards and certificates were distributed. Finally the Two-Day National Seminar came to end with vote of thanks by Mrs. S.Marithai, Organizing Secretary. The seminar was successfully arranged with the support of students along with faculty members of English department.
  • On behalf of English Literary Association a meeting was organized on 07 October 2016. The guest lecture was given by Mr.Maruthupandian, Assistant Professor of English Thiyagaraja College of Engineering, Madurai on the topic Personal Life and Professor Life Ethics on 22nd April 2017.

  • The students of UG & PG went Educational tour to Kerala on 2nd March 2017.
